Meet our team

Samantha Denniss – Headteacher and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

I am a dedicated and experienced Headteacher with over 16 years of working in special schools, supporting children and young people with a wide range of complex needs. I have been part of Higford School for the past 11 years, where I have held a range of senior roles, including SENDCo and Assessment Lead, before becoming Deputy Headteacher and, for the past 19 months, Headteacher.
My career has been shaped by a strong commitment to ensuring that every learner is understood, valued and supported to reach their full potential. I firmly believe in a holistic approach to education, recognising that each individual’s needs extend beyond the classroom. My work as both a teacher, and now Headteacher, focuses on nurturing not only academic progress, but also communication, independence, wellbeing and personal development.
I hold a Bachelor of Education in Primary Education, a Master’s degree in Education (Complex Needs), SENDCo qualification and the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). These qualifications underpin my leadership and my commitment to inclusive, high-quality education.
Fun Fact: I love being outdoors and spend lots of my weekends going away in my campervan with my family and naughty dog.

Jenna Johnson – Deputy Headteacher and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

I am the Deputy Headteacher at Options Higford, with responsibility for leading on Quality of Education and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the school. I hold a degree in Sport Management from the University of Central Lancashire and have worked across a range of educational settings throughout my career, supporting pupils with autism, SEMH and additional needs. My previous roles have included Head of PE, Head of Girls’ Games and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), which have given me a broad and practical understanding of both education and pastoral support.

I have a particular passion for PE and outdoor learning, and strongly believe in a holistic, adapted curriculum that enables every pupil to thrive. I am currently completing my NPQH and am committed to continuous improvement, both personally and across the wider team. I enjoy working closely with staff and families to create a safe, consistent and engaging environment where pupils can reach their full potential.

Fun fact: I passed my motorbike licence when I was 16 and Toodles is our family dog.

Eloise Thrower – Assistant Head- Student and Staff Wellbeing/ Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Sam Brookes- Clinical Lead

Over the last 21 years, I have had the opportunity to work with children and young people in their homes, schools and clinic settings, both locally and in New Zealand. I have gained a wealth of experience working alongside young people with a wide range of complex needs, their parents and carers, and the professionals that support them within the wider community. As an OT, I enjoy analysing activities, problem solving and using a holistic approach to ensure that learners are presented with the ‘just right challenge’ while their sensory needs are also being met. I love that Occupational Therapy looks different every day, and embrace the opportunity to join in with activities alongside students and staff whether that be a warm up dance or a scooterboard maze!

I have been part of the Higford Clinical team for 3 years, initially joining as a Specialist OT before moving into the Lead Clinician role in 2024. During this time, it has been amazing to see the Clinical Team grow into our new on-site facilities, increasing the opportunities for young people to access Clinical interventions and implement recommendations.

Fun Fact: I love to have a boogie and am a Macarena expert!

James Wild – Senior Teacher (Behaviour and Attitudes) and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

Keeley Jaworski – Senior Teacher (Assessment and accreditation lead, Sendco and Designated teacher)

I have over 25 years of experience of teaching in special education, with the main focus being on supporting those with Autism and complex needs. I joined Higford School almost 10 years ago, starting as a class teacher before moving into the senior teacher position and SENDCo.
A central focus of my professional journey has been to make sure every learner feels recognised, respected, and fully supported in achieving their potential. I am a strong advocate for a whole-child approach to education, appreciating that each individual’s needs reach far beyond academic learning alone.
I hold a Bachelor of Education in Primary Education, a Post-Graduate diploma in Autism (Children), SENDCo qualification and the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL).
Fun Fact: I enjoy musical theatre and walking in the countryside with my family.

Abbie Burnell – Senior Teacher  (Quality of Education)

Jim Lovell- Facilities Manager

I have experience in a wide variety of roles, starting as an electrician then moving into the entertainment industry. I worked for Public Health Shropshire during the Pandemic delivering testing facilities and mobile vaccination programs before making my way into facilities.
I have a strong emphasis on compliance, modernisation, streamlining and organisation.
I enjoy working at Higford as I feel like the site really makes a difference in our service users’ lives, which I am happy to be a part of.
Fun Fact: I enjoy walking, going to the gym.

Rory Macaskill – Pastoral assistant and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

I am part of the Pastoral Team and serve as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), supporting the wellbeing and welfare of pupils across the school. I oversee transport and work closely with students, staff, and parents to ensure safe, consistent, and effective arrangements, alongside providing ongoing pastoral support.
I have been part of Higford School since 2010 and have held a range of roles including Teaching Assistant, Tutor, and Teacher. This breadth of experience gives me a strong understanding of our school community and the needs of our pupils. I hold a BA in Business Management, which supports my organisational and operational responsibilities.
I am committed to creating a calm, structured, and supportive environment where pupils can thrive and feel understood.
Fun fact: I have a pug called Yorick, who keeps me busy outside of school.

Tammy Chambers – Behaviour and Attitudes Tutor

I am the Behaviour and Attitudes Tutor at Options Higford, working closely with classes and teachers to support positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and a consistent, collaborative approach across the school.
With 13 years of experience supporting children and adults with complex needs, I am committed to building strong relationships and helping students develop the confidence and skills to engage positively in their learning.
I joined Options Higford in 2023 as a Teaching Assistant, an experience that shaped my inclusive and supportive approach. I am also one of the school’s CPI instructors, supporting staff in effective behaviour management, and a member of the safeguarding team, ensuring student wellbeing remains a priority.
I am passionate about creating a structured, nurturing environment where students feel supported and empowered to make positive choices.
Fun fact: Ice cream is my favourite treat, and I’ve visited the Magnum shop while travelling in Italy.

I am a dedicated and experienced teacher with several years of working with children and young people with a wide range of needs, including teaching in different settings such as SEMH, supporting children with overlapping needs, and working with pupils who have experienced trauma, including PTSD. My experience has allowed me to support pupils in developing confidence, independence and a positive approach to learning.
My work is shaped by a strong commitment to ensuring that every child feels valued, understood and supported. I take a nurturing approach in all that I do and am particularly passionate about interactive and creative learning, recognising that children engage best when learning is meaningful and tailored to their individual strengths and interests. I enjoy being part of a supportive school community and take pride in helping pupils grow both academically and personally.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in English, a master’s degree in Primary Education, and a master’s degree in TEFL/SOL. These qualifications underpin my strong focus on communication, language development and effective teaching strategies, enabling me to support pupils in becoming confident learners and communicators.
Fun Fact: As a child, I wanted to be a pianist and spent years practising and performing on stage, representing my school and district, and travelling to different cities to compete. I also love being outdoors with a good cup of coffee and walking my Labrador.

Emily Jones – Teacher

I have over 16 years of experience working within Special Educational Needs settings. I began my career as a Teaching Assistant before gaining my PGCE in Early Years Education and qualifying as a teacher. For the past 9 years, I have worked as a specialist teacher, primarily supporting pupils in the Early Years Foundation Stage and Year 1, alongside some experience working with upper primary and secondary pupils. I am passionate about supporting both pupils and their families, building strong and trusting relationships that help children feel secure, valued, and understood. I believe that prioritising pupils wellbeing and creating a safe, nurturing environment enables them to feel confident and engage positively in their learning.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my dog, pottering in the garden, and paddleboarding in the summer.

Fun fact: I would love a hairless Sphynx cat as a pet.

Charlotte Robinson – Teacher

I am a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs (SEN) teacher with three years of supporting children to reach their full potential, both academically and personally. Throughout my career, I have worked with a wide range of pupils with diverse needs, developing tailored strategies that promote confidence, independence, and a love of learning.
My approach is centred on creating an inclusive, nurturing environment where every child feels valued and understood. I am passionate about building strong relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues, ensuring that support is consistent and meaningful both in and out of the classroom.
In addition to my SEN role, I am the school’s Maths Lead. I take pride in promoting high-quality maths teaching across the school, supporting staff in delivering engaging and accessible lessons for all learners. I am particularly committed to making maths inclusive, breaking down barriers so that every child can experience success and develop a positive attitude towards the subject.
Fun fact: I love listening to music and reading.

 

Charlotte Watson – Teacher

I am a passionate and developing teacher with over 10 years of working in various roles within schools, supporting children and young people. Within these 10 years I have spent 8 years supporting children and young people with a wide range of complex needs. Across these varied roles I found my passion for supporting individuals who have SEND being able to equip them with the skills, knowledge and being a voice to help them reach their goals. My journey with Higford School began in September 2025 where I have been enjoying my first role.  Within my role as a teacher, I believe nurture has a huge role in supporting individuals to achieve academically.
Striving for high quality education and a strong commitment to providing opportunities for all to achieve I pride myself in my qualifications. I currently hold: Foundation degree in Primary Education, BA (Hons) in Special Educational Needs, Disability, Inclusion and Childhood and Family Studies, Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children’s and Young People’s mental health and Understand Behaviour that Challenges.
My hobbies include reading, cuddling my grumpy dog, travelling and baking( being messy and trying new things are part of the fun in the kitchen)
Fun Fact: At the weekends I can often be found crafting and being creative or at a market exploring and supporting small businesses.

Jessica Norton – Teacher

I am a teacher of 2 years with a strong foundation in Early years. I hold a degree in Early Childhood Studies alongside a PGCE in Primary Education. With seven years of experience as a teaching assistant in mainstream settings, I decide to go on a complete my teaching. I am passionate about special educational needs; I find it incredibly rewarding to support children as they develop new skills and grow in confidence. Watching students overcome challenges and achieve their goals is why I enjoy teaching.
Fun Fact: I like to travel and go on holiday.

Stacey Bratt – Teacher

I’ve worked in Special Educational Needs (SEN) for over 20 years, starting as a Teaching Assistant. From the beginning, I wanted to make a real difference, which led me to gain my teaching qualification. I’ve worked in a variety of settings, including teaching in a prison and as a Behaviour Lead and Outreach Teacher in a Post-19 college, supporting young adults with additional needs to build confidence, develop skills, and achieve their goals.
Now at Higford School, I’m a Post-16 Teacher, Careers Lead, and Quality of Education Mentor. I hold a Level 5 Diploma in Positive Behaviour Support, and I am passionate about creating calm, supportive environments where every learner feels safe, valued, and able to succeed.
Fun fact: I’m an animal lover and once owned a barn owl!

Elizabeth Neary  – Curriculum lead

I have recently joined Higford (September 2025) with over 6 years’ experience in a mainstream setting and 5 years within an early year setting. I started within an Early years setting and upon gaining my qualified teacher status worked within a mainstream primary school working within KS1 and Early years to deliver the national curriculum subjects. Here I was PSHE lead where I supported the curriculum to enhance children’s Personal, Social, Health and Economic education. I worked alongside neurodiverse children.
I am excited for my journey within Higford and look forward to utilising and embedding my knowledge of implementation and curriculum development to support positive changes for all children. I strongly believe that there are many pathways to success, and that every child has the potential to excel in different areas.
My role as a teacher is to support pupils’ progress across all areas of development, including academic learning, communication, independence, wellbeing, and personal growth.

Sandip Kaur – Teacher

I am an enthusiastic and motivated teacher who has enjoyed working in several school settings, including mainstream and special schools. These roles have helped me develop a patient, adaptable and reflective approach to teaching.
Building strong relationships is at the heart of my practice, enabling pupils to develop confidence and engage in their learning. I take time to build positive relationships and understand what motivates each child, so I can support them in a way that works best for them. I am particularly passionate about helping children find their voice and develop a sense of self-belief. Whether it’s taking a small step towards independence or achieving something they once found challenging, I find it incredibly rewarding to support those moments. I aim to give pupils the confidence and resilience they need to navigate both their learning and the world around them. I have a Bachelor of Education degree in Early Primary Education. This qualification has given me experience teaching from Nursery up to Year 6 and across a wide range of abilities.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy being outdoors, spending time with my family, and going on trips away. I’m also an animal lover, especially dolphins.
Fun fact – I have been lucky enough to swim with dolphins and go skydiving in Dubai, experiences I’ll never forget.

Ben Osbourne – Teacher

I’m a SEN Teacher, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs to access learning in ways that work for them, while building their independence and confidence over time. I’ve worked in SEN and SEMH settings for over seven years, which has given me a solid understanding of how varied those needs can be… and how important it is to stay flexible. I tend to stay calm under pressure and enjoy being part of a team, especially when supporting behaviour and helping pupils work through challenges. For me, it always comes back to relationships and helping pupils feel able to succeed.

Outside of work, I enjoy football and support Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Fun fact: I completed the London Marathon with a torn ankle ligament… probably not my best decision, but I got round.

Tara Cook –  Unqualified instructor

I have over 9 years’ experience working in different educational settings, supporting students with a range of needs and helping them to do their best. I joined Higford School in July 2024 and have really enjoyed being part of such a welcoming and supportive team.
I enjoy all types of learning and believe every opportunity helps build confidence, resilience and independence. I’m passionate about making sure students have the best possible school experience and focus a lot on developing life skills that will help them both in and out of school.
One of the things I enjoy most about working here is seeing students grow in confidence and achieve things they didn’t think they could do.
Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, socialising and experiencing new places and cultures.
Fun Fact – I’m always thinking about my next travel adventure!

Paige Davis-  Unqualified instructor

I’m an unqualified instructor, supporting children with a range of additional needs to access learning in a way that works for them. I’ve developed strong experience in supporting both learning and behaviour, and I really value building positive, trusting relationships so children feel safe, understood, and ready to learn.

I’m especially passionate about hands-on, practical learning… the kind that involves movement, creativity, and a bit of mess along the way. I enjoy creating engaging opportunities that help build confidence, independence, and meaningful learning for every child.

Fun fact: I coach a grassroots football team and I’m also a qualified horse riding coach.

Charlotte Coates-  Unqualified instructor

I am an Unqualified Instructor with seven years’ experience at Options Higford, alongside previous work as a Behaviour Mentor in other school settings. I hold a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and have supported a wide range of pupils, particularly enjoying helping them to overcome behavioural challenges. I am passionate about ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed, and I aim to make learning accessible, engaging and meaningful. Building positive relationships is really important to me, and I enjoy supporting pupils to develop their confidence over time.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and going on days out.

Fun fact: I love turning wool into everything from cosy blankets to quirky keychains!

Hi, I’m Caitlyn Bagley, a PE Tutor with a real passion for helping young people thrive through sport and physical activity. I’ve always loved being outdoors and staying active, and that passion has shaped both my personal and professional journey.

I’ve had the opportunity to play football at a national level and represent my county, which has given me a strong understanding of teamwork, dedication, and resilience. Alongside playing, I’ve also coached football, and I really enjoy supporting others to build their skills, confidence, and enjoyment of the game.

I consider myself patient, calm, and understanding. I love working with children and young people, especially in a SEN environment, where building trust, encouraging participation, and celebrating every achievement—big or small—really matters.

My goal is to create a positive, supportive space where every student feels included, valued, and able to succeed in their own way.

Fun fact: I absolutely love to cook and try new foods.

Shelbie Elson-  Enrichment Tutor

I am the Enrichment Tutor at Options Higford, where I design and organise a diverse range of offsite visits, in-school experiences, and seasonal events. My role is centred on creating meaningful opportunities that support students’ development beyond the classroom, helping them build confidence, independence, and social skills.

Prior to this, I worked as a Teaching Assistant at Higford for two years, where I supported students and developed a strong passion for working in education. This experience has shaped my approach to ensuring all opportunities are inclusive, engaging, and accessible for every learner.
I am particularly passionate about creating experiences that give students a voice, encourage them to explore their interests, and try something new. I take pride in making each opportunity memorable and meaningful for all.
Fun fact: I enjoy walking and exploring new places, and I go to the gym every day before work!

Jamie Perry  – Independence and preparation for adulthood tutor

I’ve worked at Options Higford for three years, supporting young people with SEND and bringing energy, patience, and creativity to my role. I started my career in hospitality management, where I built strong leadership and communication skills, before moving into education as a teaching assistant. After two years, I progressed to Forest School Lead, where I encouraged confidence, resilience, and a love of outdoor learning through hands-on experiences.
I now work as a Preparation for Adulthood Tutor and Careers Lead, supporting students to develop independence, confidence, and essential life skills for their futures. I’m passionate about inclusion and making sure every young person has the opportunity to thrive, feel valued, and be part of their community.
Fun fact: pineapple on pizza is absolutely my favourite topping!

Joshua Foster-  PSHE/RSE Tutor

I am the PSHE Tutor here, and I genuinely love working with students who keep me on my toes in the best way. My background is in Sociology and International Relations, and I’ve spent time working in community mental health and SEN education, which really shaped how I approach this role. I’m passionate about helping students build confidence, understand themselves, and develop the life skills they need beyond school. The best part, honestly, is seeing those small moments where things just click.

When I’m not at work, I’m usually outside somewhere, making a cup of tea, or… probably eating far too much cheese.

Fun fact: I could happily build a whole meal around cheese and call it balanced.

Kristen Pires- Speech and Language therapist

Hi! I’m a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist who supports children and young people to develop their communication skills in ways that feel authentic and empowering. I was born in South Africa, where I studied and began my career, before moving to the UK in 2021. I have a special interest in early communication and am particularly passionate about supporting autistic children and young people. I love being part of a team that celebrates each child’s individuality and helps them feel understood and confident. Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, being creative, and trying new things.
Fun fact: I’m fluent in Portuguese and a qualified scuba diver!

Toodles – Therapy dog

I am Toodles, the school dog at Options Higford, and my role is to help pupils feel calm, safe and happy throughout the day. I spend time in classrooms, join walks and enjoy being part of school life, especially when I can support pupils with regulation or just sit quietly with them when they need it. I love being around people and am very good at knowing when someone might need a little extra comfort.

My favourite things are belly rubs, walks outdoors and being included in lessons (especially if there are treats involved).

Fun fact: I can usually sense who needs me before they even say a word!
